For a shop, clinic, trade or studio, the best GEO agency tests the questions your own customers ask ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, does the work on your own website, and puts its price in writing. On this list that starts with ItGrows, our own product, followed by five agencies whose own pages show this work for small and local businesses (WebFX, Mainstreethost, Thrive, Search Influence and ThinkProfits) and two tracking tools, BrightLocal and Otterly.AI, for owners who would rather do the work themselves.

We publish this list. The agencies after our own entry appear in no particular order, and everything said about them comes from their own pages, which we checked on 30 October 2026.

## Which GEO agencies work with small and local businesses?

### ItGrows (our product)

We do the work on your own website so that ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity can find and cite it. Every two weeks we put your buyer questions to those four assistants and count the answers that name you and the sites they cite.

The [published price](https://www.itgrows.ai/#geo-pricing) is $499 a month, month to month, plus a one-time $499 setup. The setup is free if you pay $1,497 for 3 months upfront or $4,788 for a year ($399 a month).

Every paid plan carries one guarantee: "In 90 days, AI assistants will name you more often than on launch day — or we work for free." Conditions apply.

Before you pay anything, the check on our homepage is free, and the detailed report (20 buyer questions, each put once to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity) is free after you create an account. A [real sample report](https://www.itgrows.ai/business/sample-report) shows what it contains.

Fit: owners who want the work done for them and a regular count of the answers that name them.

### WebFX: home-service contractors

[WebFX's AI SEO page for home services](https://www.webfx.com/industries/home-services/agency/ai-seo/) is written for plumbers, HVAC companies and roofers whose customers ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Overviews which contractor to call. The work builds on the local SEO a business already does, and WebFX tracks visibility across more than ten AI search sources, including Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with its own OmniSEO platform. The page states that its AI search optimization and GEO services for home services start at $3,000 a month.

Fit: home-service businesses that already invest in local SEO, which is who the page addresses.

### Mainstreethost: small-business GEO packages

Mainstreethost, based in Amherst, New York, writes its [GEO services page](https://www.mainstreethost.com/geo-services/) for small business owners. The services listed are AI-optimized content, schema markup, technical optimization, business listings across platforms (which it calls PowerListings), social media profiles, and keyword research on long-tail phrases that match conversational queries (which it calls AI Keywords). Its example of a local AI search is "best Mexican restaurants near me".

Its published packages start at $199 a month for GEO Essentials, which the page calls "perfect for small businesses & start-ups", then $299 for Standard, $399 for Premium and $999 for Custom; each is a starting price, billed annually.

Fit: small businesses that want a fixed package; its entry price is the lowest any agency on this list publishes.

### Thrive Internet Marketing Agency: reviews, listings and AI search

Thrive's [AI SEO services page](https://thriveagency.com/digital-marketing-services/ai-seo-services/) describes fully managed GEO for ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode. The parts closest to a local business are online review generation, management of the Google Business Profile and local listings, and third-party directory and citation management. It shows a case study of a regional primary care and multi-specialty medical group and addresses anyone from "a local startup" to "an established enterprise". The page publishes no package price.

Fit: businesses that want reviews and listings handled in the same contract as AI search.

### Search Influence: healthcare, senior living and hospitality

Search Influence's [AI SEO and GEO page](https://www.searchinfluence.com/services/ai-seo/) covers optimizing content for AI engines and traditional search, structured data and internal linking, and it discusses Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and ChatGPT. The industries in its site menu are healthcare ("Build trust and grow patient acquisition"), with senior living listed under it, hospitality ("Attract more guests and improve bookings") and higher education, and its services menu also lists local SEO. No price appears on the page.

Fit: clinics, senior living communities and hospitality businesses.

### ThinkProfits: dental practices

ThinkProfits, a Vancouver agency serving clients in Canada and the USA, has an [AI search page for dentists](https://thinkprofits.com/aeo-services/dentists/) built around the procedures patients ask about, such as Invisalign, implants and sedation. It reports every month, question by question, across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Bing Copilot, on a fixed set of prompts so that months can be compared. The page lists Bronze at $995 a month and Silver at $1,895 a month for single-market operations, and Gold at $3,495 and Platinum at $4,995 for multi-market ones.

Fit: dental practices that want a monthly report, question by question.

## Which tools can I use to track AI answers myself?

If you would rather do the work yourself, a tracker shows which of your questions name you and which name a competitor. Our comparison of [tools that track ChatGPT brand mentions](https://www.itgrows.ai/business/blog/geo-tools-compared) covers more of them; these two fit a small budget.

**BrightLocal.** The Track plan on [BrightLocal's pricing page](https://www.brightlocal.com/pricing/) includes its Local AI Visibility Tracker, described as showing "how your business appears across ChatGPT and Google's AIs". For one location it is listed at $31 a month, billed annually as $369.

**Otterly.AI.** The Lite plan on [Otterly.AI's pricing page](https://otterly.ai/pricing) costs $29 a month, billed monthly, for 15 search prompts, tracked across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Claude, Gemini and Google AI Mode are paid add-ons.

A tracker tells you where you stand. It does not change your website, so the work itself stays with you.

## What separates the businesses that AI assistants name?

From 20 to 30 October 2026, 38 businesses checked their websites with our free check. For each, 5 questions its customers would ask, generated from its website, were put once to ChatGPT (with web search) and once to Perplexity: 365 answers in all (Perplexity was unavailable for part of 30 October). 17 of the 38 businesses (45%) were not named in a single answer.

Local businesses did better. Of the 17 local businesses, whose questions were about their town, 2 were never named, and they were named in 25% of answers on average. Of the 21 businesses selling online or to other businesses, 15 were never named (71%), with 14% on average. Answers to questions that named the business's town named it in 35% of cases (31 of 89); answers to the other questions in 15% (42 of 276).

From 27 to 30 October 2026, 5 businesses got the detailed free report: 20 customer questions each, asked once to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, 400 answers. They were named in 89 of the 400 (22%). The answers cited 478 web pages: 373 (78%) were the websites of competing businesses, 51 (11%) official sources, 27 (6%) directories and 17 (4%) reference sites.

Two lessons follow for a local owner. Your town works in your favor: say plainly on each service page which towns and neighborhoods you serve, so the page matches the question a customer types. And the assistants mostly cited businesses' own websites, so the pages on your site that answer customer questions about prices, services, areas and opening hours are what an agency should be building. Listings matter, but directories were 6% of the pages cited. Our guide to [how local businesses get recommended by AI assistants](https://www.itgrows.ai/business/blog/how-local-businesses-get-recommended-by-chatgpt) goes through those pages one by one.

## How do I judge a GEO agency before I sign?

Judge the agency on three things: whether it measures the questions your customers really ask, whether it changes your own website, and whether its price and terms are written down. Our longer guide on [what a GEO agency does and how to choose one](https://www.itgrows.ai/business/blog/geo-agency-how-to-choose) covers the same ground in more detail.

Questions to ask before you sign:

- Which questions will you test, and can I add the ones my customers ask me on the phone?
- Which assistants do you check, how often, and do you ask the same questions each time so the results can be compared?
- What will you change on my own website, and who writes it?
- What is the monthly price, the setup fee and the minimum term, in writing?
- What happens if, after 90 days, assistants name me no more often than on the first day?
- Can I see a real report, with the questions, the answers and the sites cited?

Put the same six questions to every agency you talk to and compare the written answers side by side.

## What should I do first?

Start with the [free check](https://www.itgrows.ai/). It generates five buyer questions from your homepage and gets answers from ChatGPT and Perplexity; two answers show in full right away, and all five open once you create an account, which costs nothing.

If you want the full picture, the detailed report is free after you create an account: 20 buyer questions, each put once to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, with who is named instead of you and which sites the assistants cite. Take that list of questions to any agency on this page and ask what it would change.

## Frequently Asked Questions

**How much does a GEO agency cost for a small business?**

On the pages we checked on 30 October 2026, published starting prices ran from $199 a month at [Mainstreethost](https://www.mainstreethost.com/geo-services/), billed annually, to $3,000 a month at [WebFX](https://www.webfx.com/industries/home-services/agency/ai-seo/) for home services, and [ThinkProfits](https://thinkprofits.com/aeo-services/dentists/) lists dental packages from $995 to $4,995 a month. Our own plan is $499 a month plus a one-time $499 setup, and two of the agencies on this list publish no price.

**Can I do GEO myself instead of hiring an agency?**

Yes, if you have time to write and update your own pages. A tracker such as [Otterly.AI](https://otterly.ai/pricing) at $29 a month or BrightLocal's Track plan shows where you stand, but the changes to your website are still yours to make. Our article on [whether to hire a GEO agency or use a tracking tool](https://www.itgrows.ai/business/blog/geo-agency-or-geo-tool) covers the trade-off.

**Do local businesses get named by AI assistants more often than online businesses?**

In our free-check study of 20 to 30 October 2026, the 17 local businesses were named in 25% of answers on average and the 21 businesses selling online or to other businesses in 14%. Answers to questions that named the business's town named it in 35% of cases, against 15% for the other questions.

**What does the ItGrows growth guarantee say?**

Every paid plan carries it, worded: "In 90 days, AI assistants will name you more often than on launch day — or we work for free." Conditions apply. Whichever agency you choose, ask for its commitment in writing before you sign.
